Giveaway: The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2
I know that you have seen this little book before on my blog. But a rather silly, tiny, itsy-bitsy mistake happened — mainly because I was new to reviewing books for Tyndale House Publishers.
Title: The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2
by Carla Barnhill; illustrated by Elena Kucharik
Age range: 3-6 years old
Publisher: Tyndale
Price: $14.99 (hardcover)
You see, a few weeks ago I applied directly with Tyndale to review The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2, but I didn’t realize at the time that I had been awarded the review because I was JUST figuring out their web-page. So when MamaBzz sent out an email saying that I could review this devotional, I was all over it.
We really needed a new devotional . . . bad.
And if you have three young kids, you know how HARD it is to get everyone in their winter gear, grab snacks and water, climb in the car, remember that you need to get out of your PJ’s, comb your hair, fill the gas tank, keep the kiddos happy because they are bored in the store, make it back for noon lunch, and finally get everyone resting in the afternoon while still feeling loved . . . can be difficult.
So let’s just say that I was a little zealous about getting this book delivered to my door for free.
When two arrived in my mail on the same day not only did I feel slightly goofy but BLESSED.
But I don’t need two of these GREAT devotionals.
I am going to give one away. That should really summarize my review. If I am giving it away, that means I REALLY liked something.
So . . . enter to win:
and I will send this book to you. Yup . . . I’ll pay the (media mail) shipping and give you my second copy.
How to Enter (and yes my friends can enter . . . I use www.random.org to pick the winner . . . and you aren’t friends with Mr. Random. No one is. So enter to win ON MY BLOG NOT through a FACEBOOK COMMENT.)
Mandatory: read my original review by clicking HERE. Come back and leave a comment telling me your opinion of the review, something you learned, or how you were challenged.
Optional Entries (meaning write a new and separate comment)
- Become a fan of my blog (look over on the right sidebar) and tell me that you are or already were.
- Tell me something new that God has taught you.
- Describe a special moment that you had as a child, or even now, with one of your parents or a mentor that has affected your walk with the Lord.
This is a MamaBzz review. The product was provided by Tyndale House Publishers. I don’t have to give my extra copy away . . . I just want to share the love and blessing. I have not been paid for this post. I enjoyed every minute of this post.

Hey Jodi, I read your original blog, loved the idea of the devotional, had already been looking for something like that, and went out and bought one! Well the first one, so I'd love to have the second one too! We've also been reading it daily since I got it.
I liked your original review so much I went out and bought the first one! We are only a few days in, but the kids love it so much and I was already planning to get the second when we are finished, so I would love to win it!
I am a fan of your blog
Lately God has been teaching me the value of scripture memorization and (via a few blogs I've read lately) a few good ways to help my kids memorize it as well.
A few special childhood memories for me were, whenever I was having trouble getting to sleep at night, my dad would come and read a devotion or the Bible with me to help me relax and get to sleep.
I know what you mean about spending less time with God. I remember reading the Bible to Clara and havng fun teaching her Bible verses now I am just trying to juggle my 3 kids. I have been looking for a good devotional to read to my kids and would love to win one!!
Love the blog.
This looks like a great devotional! I have 2 little ones and am always looking for ways to share God's word with them. I like your pastor's wife's idea about placing Bibles all over the house to get a nugget of truth in. That is something I might have to consider doing! 🙂
This sounds like a really great way to introduce kids to the Bible.

Wow! That was less of a review and more of a challenge. I only have 1 child (well, actually 2–one on the way this summer) and I am already finding it difficult to carve out time to spend with the LORD. For a while we were doing great with family devos with our 1 year old (he'll be 2 this month) but we have been slacking lately. I've been wanting to get back to it and this was another push in that direction! Thanks!
I am a fan/follower of your blog!

I think the most recent thing the LORD has been teaching me is about his long-suffering, patience, and grace!

I am really thankful that I had godly (though not perfect) parents who took time to help us appreciate the "small" things in life. My father loves nature and some of my most special family/childhood memories involve being with my family in the woods hiking, talking, and enjoying God's creation. I still find that spending time with the LORD outside is one of my favorite things to do!

i enjoyed this review. I've been on the lookout for a devotion to do with my two boys. I learned in your review that "any amount of God's word that we can ingest throughout the day is beneficial." I love the word of God & want to share it with my children!
Well, I never win in these type of drawings, but, I would be trully blessed by this one. My husban & I have been wanting to start nightly devo with the family. Its tough with an infant and a preschooler most of the family devos are for older families. I love the ide of having bibles/scriptures in everyroom of the house. We're not quite there yet but close.
After you're review I went out and bought one! Haha! I didn't know you'd have a giveaway. We really like it! Just ready day 8 before Mr. A's nap!
I read your original review and you sold me!! I hope I win this one, but if I don't I will probably have to go out and buy it 🙂 (If my hubby lets me)
Thanks for the giveaway!
I am now following your blog
God is teaching me so much right now but the "big" lesson I'm learning right now is to listen to His voice – to follow Him. We have a lot going on right now in our lives and are in desperate need of direction – I desire for that direction to come from Him!! He's teaching me how to follow.
I love that you read the Bible to your children after breakfast – while they are playing. We usually do it at night before bed – but recently our girls have been so tired that they end up arguing with each other while we read. I am totally going to try to do it in the morning!!
I just added your blog to my google reader!!
I never thought of reading the actual Bible to my boys. I read to them from their children's Bible but I would love to read from the adult Bible. Sometimes for me, my devotional time with them is all I get in during the day.
I subscribe in Google Reader
God has really been teaching me to let go and let him lead me in me life. I keep getting myself into trouble because I keep trying to do things my way instead of HIS.
I loved that the pastor's wife had the Bible put throughout the house. That is a challenge to me because it's no excuse that I'm sitting and nursing a baby and the Bible is elsewhere. And I also have a data plan with my phone so I could access it that way. Thanks for a wonderful giveaway. My 2yo loves reading her little Bible, and maybe a devo like this could help her understand it even more.

God is teaching me that I don't have to be perfect. He loves us no matter what.

My mom worked long hours at our family-owned/runned restaurant. Even when she came home late late at night (and is the first to wake up in the morning) I remember seeing her read the Bible every night. It's not really a moment we had together, but definitely a witness to me and my walk with the Lord.

This devotional looks incredible! 🙂 The thing that really struck me from your review of this book was the idea of reading the Word of God to your children every day, even while they are playing. My son is 2, but I've been hesitant to read scripture to him for fear that it would be too much for him to understand and would overwhelm him to the point that he wouldn't be interested when he was old enough to understand. However, I think you have a point. My son doesn't have to understand everything that he hears – it will help both of us for me to read scripture to him. Who knows how God will reach out to Him through the scripture & what my son will pick up in these daily readings? Thank you for challenging me to overcome my hesitance and not wait until my son is "old enough" to share the Word with him. 🙂
Also, I am really glad I stumbled across your blog – I just became a follower. I am really into natural & organic living as well as all things the Lord…your blog is a refreshing blend of these that I am looking forward to reading in the future. 🙂
God Bless,
Jessica

I read your review & love the idea of a nightly devotion even when they are little.
I subscribed to your blog!
I am forever being challenged by God to be more patient. We read a children's Bible to our 2.5 yr old and would really like to start nightly devotions with her. This would be perfect.

Thanks for the reminder of how impt. devotions are, even with our youngest, I believe that building this habit in while they are young is one of the most impt. jobs we can have as a mom.

His Grace. He is always teaching me about His Grace.
I can't believe I haven't been following you. Well, I am now.
We've been reading form my son's Children's Bible for some time now and he seems bored with it. I never even thought about a devotional for him as he's only 3. What a fabulous idea. I'll have to start saving my pennies in case I don't win.
Your review was great and what a blessing to have an extra copy to pass on. I also have Bibles in many rooms but sad to say I haven't been taking advantage of them lately. I've tried reading at breakfast and for my son it doesn't work out, he hates to eat breakfast. We (I) read during quiet time but I love the idea of doing a devotional at bedtime.
A favorite memory for me is watching my great grandmother take cat naps in her chair with her Bible. She loved her Bible and you never ever seen her without it.
Just a note that we posted about this at Winning Readings: http://winningreadings.blogspot.com/2010/01/one-year-devotions-for-preschoolers-2.html
You challenged me. I put so much effort into scheduling/planning a devo/quiet time that I don't accomplish it with my two young kids. Reading my Bible aloud is a great idea for my personal study and what could be better for their little ears to hear?

God has taught me that only true peace comes through Him. I honestly don't know how people can do it (whatever their challenge may be) without Him.

Something that is special to me is that I found out that my dad is a devoted daily Bible reader. I never knew during the whole time I lived at home. There could be conflicting thoughts about this, but to me it was more meaningful to find out later in life. He is a very busy man, yet always found time. He has challenged me.

I just read your original review. Ilove the idea of reading an adult version of the Bible to the children and have just recently started doing so as well. But, I also like your idea of including them in your own quiet time that way they can learn to have their own quiet times as well.
Something new that God has been teaching me is to "sow seeds" into my children. If I want my children to be patient, kind, gentle, loving, etc, I need to sow these things into their lives.
A special memory that I have as a child is sitting on the couch having family devotions with my mom, dad and brother. I want to be faithful in family devotions with my own children.
I read your original post and totally agree that sometimes it's just hard to know where to begin. This looks like a great devotional Bible and I'm so excited to check it out.
I had a special moment with my child – one of those "self refelction" moments. During the holidays I found myself a little short on patience dealing with my toddler and my newborn. At one point I told my toddler that I was upset and angry with a behavior that she had just displayed. She looked at me and asked me if Jesus was in my heart. This came from a previous discusion we had about "the mad king" (Herod, from one of her Christmas books). It was so sweet to see her trying to figure out where anger and Jesus fit together. It was enough of a jolt for me to stop and pray and refocus on my kids instead of the hustle and bustle.
definitely needed to read that today 😉 i have been looking for something just like this to help me help my girls fall in love with Christ!
