Canoe to Work Day

I have never known a dull moment with the Engineer.

He has taken me to Colorado.  Introduced me to backpacking, screaming coyotes, strangers carrying scary guns, thunderstorms too close to your head, and mountains that touch the clouds.

We have traveled to India.  Ridden rickety trains. Nearly traveled over the side of a cliff in a taxi, and had our bodies consumed with amoebas.

I have learned to mountain bike, ski, and give up carbonated beverages . . . because of this amazing man.

He has given me yet another thing to brag about.

He canoed to work, with several other co-workers (not Jeff).

Yea, I know some of you will guffaw at this trek.  And his rather difficult mode of transportation.  I think they even questioned their decision at times.  Like when a canoe tipped 1 mile into the trip.

But me?  I think it is cool.  Studly.  Attractive.  (Mind you, I am ONLY attracted to him –  the Engineer.)

And the kids . . . they thought their dad was cool.

That is what I want them to think . . . to know.

Kind of like a super-hero fueled by Jesus.

They waited patiently.  Because all we saw was this for a long, long time.

Until after much waiting, we were elated much like when one finds an oasis in the desert.  Except this was the antithesis of a desert.

Our view morphed into this.

The fan club went wild when they saw him.

Their dad.

Though you can’t see the rope, the kids were so impressed that the Engineer and his buddy, Dave, were pulling Mooney).

Mooney had gotten really tired.

Thankfully at the point where this picture was taken, the group was near the end of their journey along the White River.

A 12 mile boat race.

The kids ran to help Mooney out.

Will the crew do it again?

Mooney?

I think so.

Getting up at 3:50 AM to launch at 5:30 . . . and arrive at work by 11-ish?  A great way to get out of work.

Just kidding.  Kind of.

Come on REI . . . you need to hire the Engineer . . . REI speaks the language of the adventurous dad . . . showing off for his kids.
