All About Reading Level 2

It is finally here.

That means we can officially begin school.

Which we did, in style.

What’s Here?

All About Learning Press has officially released Level 2 of their All About Reading curriculum.  I think I can end the post now.  I’m just so excited.

We Saw A Sneak Peak this Summer

This summer we visited All About Learning Press, and were given a sneak peak into the new All About Reading Level 2 curriculum.

Ezra connected the dots, when the first page he worked with was a certain silly anteater.  He had seen this drawing before on our tour at the All About Learning Press headquarters.

All About Reading is a Hit

Using the All About Reading Level 2 curriculum ranks up there (for me) with our Apologia Science textbooks.

I could use it all day long.

In fact, All About Reading Level 2 is almost too fun.

(And now that I understand why Ezra lingers over our lesson – thanks Kidzmet – I enjoy All About Reading even more.)

Open Syllable/Closed Syllable

I had already re-learned some phonics principles with Asher’s All About Spelling.  But All About Reading Level 2 actually super-glued the concept into my brain.

Let’s see if you can get it.

Watch.  The open door image will be used for the word, “so.”

As a result, the door in Ezra’s workbook page stayed open.

But the word, “mop,” for example, receives the closed door image.

Why?

Well, if a vowel is “open,” that means it is NOT followed by a consonant.

Thus, the sound that the vowel makes is LONG.

If the word contains a vowel that is followed by a consonant, the vowel makes the SHORT sound.

Nifty.

  1. Love the sticker idea! I might have to use that with my daughter. She starts to lose focus when we are working through the practice sheets.
