Our Experience with All About Reading Level 4 #giveaway
He was actually mad that he was getting his school work done so quickly and that I wasn’t very involved in his learning. He didn’t think it was fair that his brothers had All About Spelling and All About Reading curriculum . . . and he didn’t.
Until . . . All About Reading Level 4 arrived.
And on the day it was delivered, we used it.
Even though it wasn’t fully organized or put together.
What Is In the All About Reading Level 4 Kit?
All the tools for success. That is what I think.
Not to mention, fun.
But seriously what is included in All About Reading Level 4?
Well, it depends on what you need.
But starting out, if you have never used All About Reading before, you will need the entire kit ($119.95).
- Level 4 Teacher’s Manual
- Level 4 Student Packet (including the Soar with Reading activity book)
- Heirloom Antics decodable reader
- The Voyage decodable reader
And the Reading Interactive Kit ($21.85).
Obviously, if you have the Interactive Kit, just order the All About Reading Level 4 here.
What Is So Great About All About Reading Level 4?
I could say, “What is so great about Level 4 . . . but really what is so great about All About Reading in general.?! While this is a review for All About Reading Level 4, really I’m making a blanket statement about all the AAR levels.
All. Of. Them.
Out of any curriculum, across all subject lines, the organization, approach, involvement, interaction, and activity level, etc., All About Learning could teach many companies a thing or two about learning. About involving parents and students. About facilitating bonding and enjoyable learning.
While Ezra adores the stickers and progress chart, I think the way All About Reading allows us to move around the school room from the white magnetic board, to his desk, to getting out scissors, to even finding a bowl and kitchen utensils. All the while we enjoy our interaction.
I like All About Reading. I LOVE that never do I have to PLAN a lesson for All About Reading. I open the book and we go.
What Does It Cost?
I have both purchased kits and been given the curriculum to review. Hands down I would purchase all levels. In fact, I have been so blessed by All About Learning over the years, I did purchase a bunch of stuff from them over the summer and at homeschool conventions.
I adore the storage boxes. They are so great and sturdy, that I have multiples. They store the cards efficiently and quaintly. It is easy to pull out the level I need when my children are ready to progress. The only new item I have to purchase when another kiddo comes along to learn, is the student workbook. The teacher’s manual and manipulatives stay the same! In fact, many of the manipulatives are identical across levels.
I like this. Simplicity. Value.
Oh, the cost . . . I told you above. {ahem} Approximately $141.80 for Level 4 and the Interactive Kit . . . divided by how many children you have.
Win an All About Reading Level
I’d like to say that you can only win All About Reading Level 4 BUT All About Learning intervened up there in that cold Wisconsin air (thanks Becky). They are offering one of my blessed readers the opportunity to win All About Reading Level 4 or any equivalent Level.
How sweet is that?
Enter to win using the Rafflecopter widget. I was provided All About Reading Level 4 from All About Learning. I was not paid for this post and I offered my honest opinion.
Didn’t win? Or is the giveaway over? Purchase All About Reading Level 4 (or any other level) here.
We currently use AAR and AAS and LOVE them both for all three of my kids. My youngest will start the pre-reading program later this year! We haven’t purchased level 4 yet, and would love to win!
Isn’t the difference simply that one teaches reading and one teaches spelling?! 😉
We use AAR and LOVE it, I’d love to get level 4!
We are ready for AAS Level 1 and almost ready for AAR Level 2!
We love AAR! What a generous giveaway 🙂
wr are no where near level 4, I just wanted to say how much we LOVE All About Reading and All About Spelling in general! Use them
Both and couldn’t be happier!
We also love both AAR and AAS. We have used it from the pre-level through level 3. I highly recommend this curriculum!
OH! There really is a huge difference between teaching spelling (Encoding) and reading (Decoding). Interestingly, my son had an easier time picking up spelling than reading. I appreciate teaching them separately, though I definitely see how each subject supports and influences the other. I have certainly learned a lot through teaching them!
We currently use AAS and have used the phonogram sounds app. Would love to try AAR.
I would love to try any of the all about reading or spelling programs.
I’m excited to hear more about AAR! I have a new one who is behind in reading…looking for new ways to catch him up.
We also LOVE All About Reading. My son, 7, is halfway through Level 3. He does not have the same love for AAS. He does not like all the writing…so we are taking a little break from spelling and coming back to it while I think of a way to alter it for him. I really like the free resources, articles and the forum on their website. Thanks for the review and great giveaway! We’ll be needing Level 4 soon!
We have been using the AAR and AAS programs for 3 years now and LOVE it. I can’t say enough good things about it. We are currently using AAR Level3 for my oldest and now started the pre-K level for my youngest. Thank you for the opportunity!
The difference between the AAR and AAS is the decoding. My daughter is struggling with the spelling but I like how AAS breaks down the rules to help her figure out how to do this.
I would probably get the Level three for my oldest. We are currently coming up with the words ourselves using some online help.
Would love to try this! My son is cruising through so much reading and I have multiple kiddos behind him that would get to use such a wonderful product!
We love AAR and AAS! I would love to win level 4. Thanks for the giveaway!
We currently use AAR Level 1. I would love a change to win the level 4. We have had great success with AAR. Yay!
I love All About Reading. It has been a life saver in our house. My twins were having so much trouble learning to read while at ps. Now that they are at home using AAR reading is “fun” and they are really starting to get it. Highly recommend! We would love to win level 4 🙂
We currently have AAR 1 and 2. We would LOVE to get 4! Thank you!
Thank you for this review and chance to win! I have a 5 year old in public school, but he is not being challenged enough and is getting bored. Homeschooling isn’t a financial option right now, but a kit like this looks like something we could easily implement at home and/or send activities to school with him to keep him enjoying learning.
This is our first year homeschooling… I felt like I was baptized my fire and thrown into a never-ending pit of curriculum choices. I spent HOURS researching, and my decision has been narrowed down for next year to a very few choices, and it includes ALL ABOUT READING and ALL ABOUT SPELLING! I just love this program… I hope we win because it would be WELL used 🙂
Oh my gosh, I am on ebay right now trying to tell my level 1, we are currently using level 2, and hoping to afford level 3 and 4! My daughter was told she would not read beyond a basic level and she is doing so great. she was additionally diagnosed with dyslexia and we have had NO problems since starting this! We loved it so much, I got the spelling programs for both children!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE
I would love to win this and use with my son. He is a very hands on learner.
We are currently on AAR level 2 and love it! We plan on using AAR 3 and 4.
I would love to win the next level up for us since AAR is the most expensive curriculum we buy!
What a great give away! We are just switching our kiddos to all about reading.
I like how they offer pages for you to see/sample.
The difference between all about reading and all about spelling is that AAR helps with phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension and AAS helps with encoding and spelling rules.
Well, since I JUST started homeschooling this year, I could probably use all of it!! :):):)
I have been eyeing this curriculum for my middle son who is still struggling with reading and spelling. It is just too expensive for me so maybe I can win it.
We use AAR in our home, and we LOVE it! We have used Levels 1 & 2 with my oldest, and he is an AMAZING reader. I can’t wait until my current 5 year old is ready to begin AAR 1! 🙂
I visited the page, as you suggested, and I think we need ALL of it in our home! We have yet to find an element of AAR that we don’t enjoy, so why leave out any element of this amazing program?
Thank you for your review & giveaway!
The difference between AAR and AAS, straight from the All About Learning website:
AAS teaches words from the spelling angle, while AAR teaches words from the reading angle.
All About Reading includes decoding skills, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and lots of reading practice. It uses letter tiles just like All About Spelling does, though AAS focuses instead on encoding skills, spelling rules, and other strategies that help children become good spellers.
We love All About Reading and Spelling! We’ve completed reading levels 1 & 2, and are just about finished with level 3. I would love to win level 4!
We have been loving AAR! It would be a great treat to win Level 4! Thanks for your generosity!
Free downloads & apps on the page 🙂
We love AAR and AAS! I love the extra resources one their website to supplement the curriculum. We have completed AAR 1 with my youngest, and AAS, 1&2 with my oldest. It is a fabulous curriculum!
We are currently using AAR Level 2 and we have found the website to be very useful with the free apps and sample pages and placement test. The resources are very easy to use and explain the curriculum in great detail. We will continue to use AAR for many years to come.
There is a big difference between AAS and AAR. AAR teaches decoding, phonics and reading comprehension, and AAS teaches encoding skills and spelling rules. I have found that using these two programs but taught separately has helped my children in all aspects of reading and spelling.
This is our first year in All About Spelling and am sooooo curious about All About Reading! We kind of jumped into the spelling program in a few levels since we were switching to it from another curriculum. I’d love to get this in my hands! 🙂
we are in aar level 2 with my twins an we love it. We are still in level 1 for spelling. The difference between the two is that one teaches decoding and the other encoding. I love that the spelling lags behind the reading to ensure the decoding is solid before launching the more difficult encoding tasks.
We love AAR and AAS best curriculum move we’ve made.
We love AAR and AAS here. We just started using them a few weeks ago, but I’m saving money up to buy Level 2 of AAR for my older son. This giveaway would be great!
About 2 weeks away from finishing AAR 1 and I am absolutely loving it and so thankful that we found this! Can’t wait to start AAR 2
We are finishing up AAR 1 soon and need to get 2!
Well ALL of it!
AAR teaches decoding, phonics, and fluency. AAS teaches encoding and spelling rules.
We love both AAR and AAS. I have a dyslexic daughter that hated reading until the AAR program. I love the forums and blogs on their website where I have gone for some wonderful help. When needed I have also contacted the company themselves with questions and they are so helpful!
We are using AAR and really loving it. It is working for both my easy learner and my struggling learner.:)
The difference, I would think, is one teaches reading and there spelling. I have not used AAS yet as we are starting with AAR
We have used AAR Level 1 and 2 and we’re about to start on Level 3. I absolutely LOVE this program. We had tried other reading programs before AAR and my son would complain about having to do his reading lesson. Now, he begs me to do them first!!! He loves the games that are part of the program and I’m amazed at how well he’s doing. Everywhere we go, he will read the signs, the menus, or anything else he sees!!! He not only will read the words he sees out in public, but he’ll tell you the rules that go along with it. He’ll tell you that that word is “chase” and it’s the name game syllable. I have laminated all the games and plan on using them for my daughter as well. We just finished AAS Level 1 and we’re planning on ordering Level 2 next!! I LOVE their products!!!
We would love to win level 4 for all about spelling.
I love that this curriculum can be used for all of my kids in the future years, and that it encourages parents to go at their child’s own pace.
I love AAL! We are currently working through AAR Level 2 and AAS level 1, so we could use AAR level 3 and AAS level 2. 🙂
Difference between AAR and AAS is AAR is all about decoding and AAS is all about encoding. The AAR level 4 site has a placement test, the scope of level 4 and samples of the teacher’s manual, activity book and readers.
I would love to try! I homeschool my three boys. I think this would help my son with Asperger’s.
We are an AAR family. We’ve used levels 1 and 2 and are currently working through level 3. We also use AAS, which we’ve done level 1 and are working through level 2 now. I have twins with very different learning styles – I LOVE that AAR and AAS works for both of them!!
My youngest son has cp, proprioception disorder and spd. AAR is the perfect program for him. We’re starting pre-reading level and hope to use the other levels in the future.
We love AAR! Great for those struggling readers!
AAR is about decoding and AAS is about encoding. We are using both and they really work well together.
the difference between AAS and AAR is that AAR teaches reading (decoding) and AAS teaches the spelling rules.
All about Spelling and All About reading is what has finally worked for our son!
We love AAR and winning this giveaway would be such a blessing!
I have debated using AAR with my daughter who struggles so much!
This would be awesome to win. We use both AAR and AAS and they are wonderful!
I used AAR Pre-Reading with my son and he loved it! Haven’t been able to buy AAR Level 1 yet.
AAR and AAS is awesome. They could teach alot of other companies a thing or two about curriculum. Good stuff!
We love AAR! We finished Pre-Reading and are working through Level 1 now. My little girl loves the readers.
I have wanted to try aar for awhile now with my struggling reader. Thank you for the opportunity
I have wanted to try aar for awhile now with my struggling reader. Thank you for the opportunity
the difference between AAR and AAS is one focuses on skills needed for reading (decomposing) and the other for spelling (building). The most important things are what they have in common. Both are hands-on, simple to use, and teach through consistent rules (logic). Great programs!
I would LOVE to try this program…I’ve been drooling over it for awhile!
We absolutely love All About Reading, and All About Spelling. Oddly we started with level 1 AAS, and he figured out how to read from there, which prompted me to get AAR. I’ve yet to ever regret that decision 🙂
We have just discovered All About Spelling, now we are looking forward to All About Reading!
We will be starting AAR Level 1 soon and are very excited about it!
Aar teaches decoding where aas teaches encoding
We are currently using AAR1 and AAR3 at our house. LOVE AAR!!!
One teaches decoding, one encoding
AAR is all about decoding words and AAS is all about encoding words (which is more difficult).
We love AAR and I know we won’t be switching in the future! We would love to win!!
We are using AAS and would love to try out AAR (Level One).
We live all about reading. We are on level 2. We are also starting all about spelling.
Wow, thanks for an opportunity to win a set of AAR! I’ve used levels 1 and level 2 and I *love* them, but it would be amazing to win the next level. My son took off reading so well in the middle of level 2 that we slacked off and I wondered if we should even keep going, but we recently picked it back up and are determined to finish. I know there’s always room for improvement. Thanks for a great review!
I’ve heard such great things about AAL curriculum. Would love to be blessed with it! Thank you for hosting this giveaway!
We love All About Reading! We would love to win Level 4!
Such a timely giveaway! We are flying through and ready for the next level soon!
We use AAR and AAS for 3 different kids. Amazing the difference it has made for us!
We love the All About programs!
We love AAR and AAS! We use Pre-R and 2, and spelling 1.
The difference is decoding and encoding. Doing the reading first has made the spelling so easy. I love how the reading includes a lot of practice and comprehension exercises.
We have AAS for our older ones. I need AAR for our younger struggling reader. I have also used ideas from their blog. There are many great ideas!
we love all about reading and all about spelling!!
We’re currently on AAR 1 and LOVE it! I will definitely be purchasing additional levels in the future!
I don’t need a kit, since I have other levels, but I do need all the Level 4 materials.
We just found AAS this year and like it a lot. Would love to try AAR with my son. This is a great program and very easy to use.
Would love to try AAR!
I love AAS. I am using it to teach spelling after my dd was reading proficiently. Decoding in order to read is a different skill than learning spelling strategies and I am glad AALP separates them!
I have seen great reviews for this a lot of different places and would love to try it with my son.
This is our first year using AAR and AAS and we are loving it. I love how it really guides me through teaching the lessons and my daughter loves the activities.
The difference is encoding vs. decoding.
I am using All About Reading and All About Spelling with both of my sons, and we love it! My boys are very different learners, yet it can be adapted to meet both of their needs. We are about ready to move in Level 4, so this would be an awesome giveaway to win!
I haven’t tried either curriculum yet, but I’d love to try AAR and AAS levels 1 and 4 with my kids. My daughter could definitely use a boost with her spelling and I think that using AAR and AAS would probably help!
Thank you for the review, perfect timing as I have been thinking about buying all about reading!
We just started All About Spelling this year, and we all love it! I’d really like to use All About Reading also, but just really can’t afford to purchase it at this time.
I could use the level 4 kit.
The difference between AAR and AAS is definitely encoding vs. decoding. AAS teaches all of the sounds and the many ways to write them in our crazy language, but by using the color coded manipulatives, it really helps organize them in a student’s brain in a logical way. AAR allows the student to practice what they have learned in AAS in a meaningful way, and gives opportunity to build comprehension skills as well.
We love All About Reading and All About Spelling. My son thinks there should be an All About Math and other subjects, too!
I very seriously agree. I have tried so many other reading curriculums! This is the first that really works!!! Love
We are using AAR Pre Reading, Level 1 and Level 3! All I can say is that it is fantastic and so simple to use…we are so happy with the programs!
We use both All About Reading and All About Spelling. We’ve used levels 1, 3, and 5 of All About Spellings and are onto levels 2, 4, and 6 this year. We’ve used levels 1 and 2 of All About Reading. We were waiting for All About Reading 4 to come out for my eldest, who needed to put the finishing touches of her reading skills.
I love every aspect of the program except that the boxes haven’t held up to the test of time. Also, the cards don’t all fit into the boxes the way they were predicted to.
Also, we found it difficult to start at where my daughter’s tested (levels 3 and 5) when some of the supplies needed were only found in levels 2 and 4.
The program itself works very well. It took us a long time to find an Ortwerth-Gilliam approach and I won’t be trying anything new.
Spelling rules are different than reading rules, so it is important to do both of these very different programs. The spelling program will have you memorize the X different ways to spell the long E sounds, while the reading program has you memorize the X different ways to pronounce OUGH. It is also important to move at the pace your child progresses with these two skills independently.
I am using level 1 for my dyslexic son and so far so good. I plan to continue with AAR so, we’ll definitely get use out of level 4 when it comes time.
AAR is learning how to decode.
AAS is learning how to encode.
We are currently using AAS and would love to be able to win the Level 4 Reading as that’s where my daughter is. Love how the program is set up.
We currently use AAR Level 1 & 2 with our girls. I can’t imagine using anything else! They love it!
I would love to win AAR 3 or 4!
There is a big difference in AAS and all about Reading. The reading program teaches children how to decode words so that they are able to read them, and the spelling takes the time to teach them how to spell the words by using rules.
Our daughter has dyslexia and I’ve been considering trying out AAR with her. I’ve heard such great things about it!
I am currently using AAR level 2 and have level 3 waiting. Winning level 4 would be great, because it’s a given I will be purchasing it later on when we are ready for this level. I would love to try AAS also.
The difference between AAS and AAR is that AAR teaches with the intent of learning to blend. AAS teaches with an intent to break apart words and learn how to spell them.
I need and would love to win level 4 – will be using it next year with my oldest who has done AAR and AAS all along!
We live AAR and AAS! It has made drastic changes in my oldests ability (he has some language delays, and my youngest is very confident in his reading!
My son uses AAS and he would love to try this.
I would love to try AAR Level 4 with my 4th grader who needs just a little extra boost! I have been looking for reviews for this new product, so Thank you! I may purchase just the readers, and see if this is the right level or not.
We LOVE AAR and AAS. So thankful to have found them!!
The kids and I love AAR and AAS, and would love to WIN!!!
We are currently using AAR and AAS. We love it. It has really helped my son. Hoping to be starting 4 soon. Great review!
We use both AAR and AAS. We are almost to level 4, so this giveaway would be a blessing. This reading program worked wonders for my daughter. After a seizure, I pulled her out of school because I was not pleased with the progress she was making there. Within a year, she went from not being able to read to reading chapter books. Since we started homeschooling, it has been increasingly difficult to afford curricula with my limited income. This giveaway would be tremendous for us or for anyone that wins. Fingers crossed! : )
AAS teaches encoding and AAR teaches decoding, the programs complement each other.
We adore All About Learning Press. We currently use AAR 2 and AAS2! We love the activity sheets!
We are new to AAS. I am interested in AAR also!
Encoding and decoding
I use AAR and AAS for my 3 girls. We love both of them! They are easy to follow and make learning fun!
good luck:)
We’re planning to start AAR in January! 🙂
We love AAS, i cant wait to start the next level. I am debating starting AAR, too.
What Fantastic information and a great giveaway to boot.
We currently use AAR. I have a child in Level 1 and one in Level 2. We love the program and my kids are experiencing success! They especially love the readers in the program and I love the word cards for the review.
AAS teaches spelling through spelling rules. AAR is to teach reading. I’ve use AAR so I’m less familiar with AAS. I love the rules-based approach of both programs.
My kids love the AAR and AAS programs. In fact, my son is doing AAS only and asked me if he could get the reading program too! They both ask to do these lessons even when they aren’t on the lesson plan that day. Great program! I’d love to win a copy of AAR level 3 or 4
Oh I would love to win! I love AAR and AAS. I have done 3 levels so far!
We are just starting AAR. Love it.
what an awesome giveaway! I would love to win!
Love AAS and would really like AAR for my 8yr old son.
I could use all of it. I just bought AAR 1 for my oldest and have 2 littles behind him.
We used AAS 1 and loved it!
AAR teaches reading and decoding skills and AAS teaches spelling and encoding skills.
I would use everything! We are about to start Level 3 and still loving AAR!
We are just starting on this journey, but I’ve heard SO many great reviews on the All About Learning programs, I would love to try out the All About Pre-Reading!!
Very generous giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity to win!
We LOVE AAR and AAS. My 1st grader just finished level 2 and it’s one of his favorite things to do each day.
We are using level 1 and love it!! We love the app too! I’m even learning things I never realized!
Would love to win. We love AAR and AAS!
We use AAR and AAS and love it! My just turned five year old is reading at a 2nd grade level!
“AAS teaches words from the spelling angle, while AAR teaches words from the reading angle.”
I using AAR with my younger son and AAS with my oldest. I plan to go through all the levels with all my children, so there’s a lot I could use from that page. 🙂
We love AAR and would love to win level 4
We love AAR and would love to win level 4
We have 1 child in level 1 and another using level 2. LOVE AAR and AAS!
The difference is decoding v encoding. It so simple yet so important! I love how they complement each other, yet stand alone too.
I found a placement test, the complete kits, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension!!! Everything!
I would love to try this with my daughter.
We use All About Spelling for our 1st grader. I have been considering All About Reading for my rising kinder next year. He is coming from a montessori preschool which we love….he also will hate the writing part of school. AAR may be perfect.
We need level 3, but would be thrilled to have level 4 for later!!!
Both of my children use the AAS and love it. My youngest has the AAR program, but with the new level 4 it would be great for my oldest!
Currently using Level 1 and plan to continue going forward.
We also use AAR and AAS and love them! This is our first year with AAR. It has really helped my “reluctant reader” blossom, and my preschooler wanted to join the fun, so he’s doing it too!
We recently started AAR and will be starting AAS soon. I have really enjoyed the open and go style. My youngest is loving AAR Pre-level especially the Ziggy concept.
AAR has helped my dyslexic son to learn to read! He just wasn’t getting it before AAR. We were both so frustrated. He started with the Pre-Reading level a not even a year ago and now he is ready for Level 2! AAR is a lifesaver! I recommend it to all my home school mommy friends!
We love AAR. The activity pages are fun and interactive. My son loves his reading program.
We have just started AAR & AAS and talk about a turn-a-around in attitudes and learning happening!! LOVE! Would love to have an upcoming level!
The main difference for us between AAR and AAS are the activity sheets. AAR has fun hands on activity sheets. I wish the spelling program had something similiar.
Love AAS and AAR!
AAR breaks down AAS more with a focus on reading mechanics and fluency rather than spelling.
I love AAR!
Started with AAS , was excited when AAR was released. Both are great fo students with dyslexia. Always need materials that the kids enjoy and don’t look babyish. Great organization and sequence of presentation.
I’m Orton-Gillingham Certified. I’m real curious to see how you have structured the lessons. I am currently tutoring one student and he has made amazing progress during the past year.
Id love to try level 1 with my daughter.
Love love love
I’ve recommended his too many people. My only thing is I wish this was around when my other 2 were learning to read
We have used aas with two kids. One is on level 3 and one is on level 1. I just love it! It has been such a wonderful thing for my son who is a reluctant reader. He loves to do our spelling lessons now. My daughter has been begging to start her spelling. She is flying through it! I love the spelling program and would love to try the reading program!
Would love to get AAR and AAS, but would want to do the placement test.
I have used AAS with three of my kids, they have loved it and I love it as well. My kids are learning how to spell well and I love how parent friendly it is. I have three younger kids that I’d love to use AAR, to teach them how to read, rather than what I have used in the past. It would be an absolute blessing to win AAR.
We use AAS and AAR, as well. We have used AAS 1 and 2 and AAR Pre-reading through AAR 2. This would be great to receive for my little ones.
AAR teaches the reading and has a lot of hands-on games. AAS has hands-on tiles and teaches spelling rules.
All About Spelling (I have purchased the first 4 levels) and All About Reading – (purchased Level 2 would love more), Readers!
We currently use both AAS and AAR and LOVE them! We are using level 3 of AAR so I’m looking forward to getting level 4 soon!
The difference between AAS and AAR is decoding!
I am very excited to use AAR and AAS with my sons. I haven’t had the chance to use them yet, but really looking forward to using it in the future!
We have completed AAR 2 and AAS 1. We are currently working through AAR 3 and AAS 2. This is our second year and we love it!

Wow – this whole set looks amazing!!
We use AAR & AAS & are almost ready for level 2. We love it!
I keep looking at AAR, my oldest is a struggling reader.
I use AAS with my girls and we love it. I would love to use AAR with them and my son also but funds are tight.
We love AAR! We tried several other programs and finally had success with AAR.
We have used All About Reading levels 1 and 2, and All About Spelling Level 1. We start All About Reading Level 2 tomorrow! I am hoping to buy All About Spelling Level 3 and Reading Level 3 soon. My daughter is Dyslexic, and before I found All About Learning, reading and spelling were almost impossible. She is now in 2nd grade and reading on a 3rd grade level! My son is an advanced reader, but he loves the All About Reading and spelling programs as well. So thankful for this curriculum!
In Christ,
Wendi Reed
I think my daughter would benefit greatly from this program. She might actually learn to like to read more.
I struggle with her reading comprehension and I think this might help a lot with that. Would love an opportunity to win this. Thank you 🙂
We finished AAR Pre-level a couple months ago, and we both LOVED it!! My son keeps asking why we aren’t doing lessons with Ziggy anymore. I’m very anxious to continue on with AAR Level 1!
We use AAS but have not tried AAR. It would be neat to try it!
There’s definitely a big difference between AAR and AAS. I know we’re not planning to begin using AAS until after we’ve completed AAR Level 1, because it’s important to learn reading skills before focusing on spelling. I’m excited to see how great it is too though!
Love, love, love AAS and AAR! Have used them both and definitely say this is the best spelling and reading curriculum on the market!!!
I love this program! We use it for both spelling and reading.
The difference is in reading versus spelling, but not having used them both i cannot share specific differences.
I’Ve heard such good things about AAR and AAS, I’d love to win and be able to try them out for myself!!!
I love AAR and AAS. They made the biggest difference for my daughter.
AAS helps with encoding. AAR helps with decoding. We use and love both.
We ordered AAR, AAS for the first time this year. I have one that has almost finished level 1 already!
My son is ready for a higher level of AAR so would love to win!
we could use anything above level aar level 1. we just started level 1 and I’m excited to see how it goes.
the difference is one is for spelling and one is for reading.
downloadable placement tests!
AAS and AAR are two different programs that work together. You have to start AAR before starting AAS 🙂 gotta know some reading before starting spelling.
We have used All About Spelling, and just started all about reading with our kindergartner. We love it and would love to have level 4!
I have the first 3 levels…. Would love to win level 4!
I have done the Pre-Reading program last year and now we are about 10 lessons away from finishing Level 1 and my Kindergartener is just doing fantastic with this program! I would love to win so we can go ahead and move to level 2 instead of Momma making up stuff on her own to fill in the rest of the year cause Daddy says we have spent enough on curriculum already this year;)
I guess the resources we would need is the reading interactive kit and the reading materials. We have yet to try out this program! Thank you for your review.
Difference in the spelling program and reading program besides the consumables and different books: You only need to purchase the Spelling Divider Cards to complete your Spelling Interactive Kit. Because the reading program has the other things. Which is really cool!
I would love to win! Great products. I want to try aar.
My first grader is learning to read and AAR looks like it would be a great fit!
I would use all of these resources.
The difference is one is spelling and one is reading.
Love all about spelling and my daughter would love all about reading!
I would love to win this for my grandson! My daughter has decided to homeschool.
IWe are just starting a as level 1 and aar pre level so could use anything above that. How awesome it would be to win!
One is for spelling and one is for reading and think its great that they have them separate from each other!
One program is for spelling and one is for reading and think its great that they have them separate from each other!
The difference is one program is for spelling and one is for reading and think its great that they have them separate from each other!
The difference is one program is for spelling and one is for reading and think its great that they have them separate from each other!
So want to try it?
We use AAS and would love to add AAR 4 to our homeschool curriculum. Thank you for this amazing giveaway 🙂
We use AAS and love it! I’ve thought that using AAR would help reinforce skills but haven’t tried it due to finding other curriculum much cheaper.
I love AAR. It is a wonderful program.
I would love to win this! My son is about to finish aar level 1. Winning level 2 would be perfect timing!!!
I recently discovered this company and would love to try AAR. Thanks for the opportunity!
We use both AAR and AAS. Love them both, and as a former special education teacher, I find they are both well equipped to aid children with varying learning styles.
AAR has saved our homeschool! My struggling, dyslexic daughter was convinced she couldn’t read. Now she is doing amazing. I am so excited for level 4, which we need for next year, and the bigger words she will learn to decode. What a confidence booster that will be for her! I also like the vocabulary they will introduce, and the stronger emphasis on comprehension. Thanks for doing this giveaway!
AAS helps students encode, which AAR helps students decode. I didn’t think we needed both, but we do. Actually, my daughter first did better with AAS, and was a better speller than reader!
I love the assesment tests so you can tell what level everyone is at.
Never heard of it, thanks for the great info!
I’ve been wanting to try this program!
This is our first year using AAR and SAS and we love it!!! Highly recommend it.
I’d love to use this with my children ! What a great giveaway.
This would be such a blessing for our family!
I love AAR and aas!! I have just started using it with a second child too. It really is just grab and go and the kids love it!!
“Out of any curriculum, across all subject lines, the organization, approach, involvement, interaction, and activity level, etc., All About Learning could teach many companies a thing or two about learning. About involving parents and students. About facilitating bonding and enjoyable learning. ” I haven’t heard it better. I certainly couldn’t write it better. We are zooming through AAR and AAS, and my daughter can’t wait to start Level 3 after Christmas – provided we can afford to buy it. It would be such a blessing to win this part of our language arts program!! As the teacher and mom, I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. My daughter adores it. THANK YOU, Marie Rippel, for blessing our household in this manner!
We added All About Spelling this year and LOVE it. Can’t wait to try All About Reading!
The difference between All About Reading and All About Spelling……
The former is an excellent Reading program that ALSO teaches spelling rules, writing tools (such as brainstorming and organization skills), etc. The latter teaches ONLY spelling rules and contextual usage. They work together, in concert, to ingrain early positive spelling patterns and habits, while developing the other areas of reading and writing. My daughter most enjoys using the skills she has learned to read the humorous stories though!
we are currently using AAS and AAR Level 3. Absolutely love them! Would love to win the next Level 4!!!
We love All About Reading! My oldest son is halfway through level 2 and I plan to stick with it because it is so effective and easy to use!
The difference between AAR and AAS are that AAS focuses on spelling and requires writing while AAR teaches how to read and does not require writing. I love that my little guy could move ahead quickly with learning to read with AAR and we will add in AAS later when writing isn’t such a challenge.
We love AAR and AAS. We are so thankful to find a reading program that actually works. I am currently using AAR 1 with my youngest and will be moving to AAR 3 with my oldest in a couple of weeks. I recommend this program to just about every homeschoolwr I meet that has a new reader or struggling reader. As far a AAS goes, my daughter actually retains and applies the spelling rules. Dictation is such a great way for continiual application and retention. Spelling is no longer a tearful event!
AAR and AAS are different and we love/need them both. Reading teaches phonics, decoding, everything you need to read and comprehend. AAS is for learning to spell. Awesome programs!
We LOVE AAR! I have a special needs kiddo and it’s perfect! We can move at our own pace. We’ve been on level 1 for 2 years now, but it works for us. We do short bursts of new learning (spending at least a week on new material) followed by long review periods (like months at a time). All of the resources are amazing and so helpful! I’d use them all!
LOVE AAR and AAS. Would love to win Level 2
We love both AAS and AAR!!!
The difference between AAR and AAS is that this program really addresses that beinging a goid reader jas absolutely nothing to do with being a good speller. I have always been a poor speller (thank goodness for spell check in this modern world, lol) but an excellent reader. Just because one can read a world does not mean one can spell the word. I like the fact that AAR and AAS are taught a seperate subjects and therefore can be introduced to the child as individual subjects and levels as the child is academically ready and developmentally ready. Really I can not say enough about how thankfull we have found AAR and AAS. We are currently finishing AAR 2 with my oldest and using AAR 1 with my youngest. My oldest is also finishing up AAS 2 this month.
Used AAS with my big kids, but they were too old and advanced for it. Can’t wait to use this with my 4yo!
I’m so excited there is a level 4!
We use AAR and AAS. We love them both. My 9yo daughter has written language delays and both curricula follow very closely the work we are doing with our language specialist. It has been amazing in helping increase her self esteem.
I just recently started using AAS and it’s so much better that what I was using prior. Would love to win this for my 8 year old.
The difference Between AAS and AAR would be that one teaches the breakdown of words while the other teaches how to put them together. (I think) 🙂
We have used AAR and AAS for 2 years now and love it!
We have finished AAR level 1 and are currently doing AAR 2 and AAS 1. I love AALP as do my children!
Using AAR now. Level 4 would be awesome! 🙂
I also like that AAS separates the words in to groups by similar letters and by spelling rule. While AAR separates into phonics sounds.
We love AAS, and would love the chance to try AAR Level 4 with my advanced reader!!!
We use both AAS and AAR. And believe it or not we use all the resources on the AALP website at one point or another in our learning journey with 2 boys. I used AAS before AAR had come out to help my older sons spelling and it naturally boosted his reading level too. I’m so excited that I get to use both AAS & AAR with my second son.
We would love to use AAR!
I just recently ordered Aar level 1 for my 6 year old daughter who was struggling with reading. We are four lessons in and we are loving it!!! I would love to be able to win the next level! And possibly start my son on it too! Thanks for hosting a giveaway!
I absolutely LOVE AAR! We have yet to try the AAS program because my kids are so young. From their website I definately use the Blog and Forum. Since I’ve signed up for their newsletters I also am able to click and receive the freebies. I’ve also used the order button to order the pre-reading for my kiddos already. As a teacher turned homeschooling parent, I can attest to how WELL laid out and thoughtful this curriculum is. I searched and searched for a spelling curriculum that I liked first (yes we have years before we use it, but I like to get my ducks in a row so that I can financially plan). When I found AAS, I was floored that it covered every base. Everything that had been missing from what I had to teach in the public school. Then I saw they had a reading curriculum too, researched that and am IN LOVE. I tell everyone I know about AAR and AAS. We have only used the pre-reading curriculum and if I win I would get the level 1 so that we have a seamless transition in a few months 🙂
I would use all of the resources from AAR Level 4. Love AAS and AAR.
This is an awesome opportunity to win a fantastic reading program!
Hope to win this for my daughter!
Lots of resources! The blog has tons of info—like the FLOSS rule explanation. Would love to win a set of this for my dyslexic daughter!
We LOVE All About Reading! We are on level 2 and also just started All About Spelling Lvl 1. My daughter just loves them! She is a kinesthetic learner and this really caters to her learning style. I have a friend who’s daughter is same age but more of a reading learner loves it as well, they just don’t opt to do some of the games and hands-on word tiles. So definitely a good fit for different learning styles. It is great for me because of the complete lesson plans!! I LOVE THAT! One less thing for me to do!
I have been wanting to try All About Reading with my 2 boys but haven’t been able to order it yet. I would love to win this!
I love AAS and would love to use AAR for my younger 2 as my 7 year old seems to have some mild dyslexia and I’ve heard such good things about this program for kids dealing with it. The spelling program is so thorough and well thought out and easily teachable by me. They have so many free download resources too, my kids love the phonograph app and it’s so simple 🙂 Great giveaway!
We have used AAR 1 and the app. They are wonderful! They have really helped my kids.
I’ve used AAS 1 & 2 and we have been slacking in reading, I was just thinking of purchasing AAR 2. I love the spelling program a lot and so do the kids!
We currently use AAR level 2 and AAS level 1.
I’d love to have this package! I’ve taught 4 to read & I’ve still got 3 to go, & I’ve been wanting to try AAR.
If I won, I’d choose to get level 1 & begin at the beginning.
We love AAS and AAR! We don’t have level 4 yet and will need it very soon!
Both programs have the same great approach to phonics, but one focuses on encoding and the other on decoding. My daughter’s spelling has improved so much since starting AAS. I love that they could be used independently, but really work to reinforce the same phonics rules when used at the same time.
I LOVE AAR & AAS….The entire page is very resourceful and honestly if I could afford their program I would order more often
Teacher lesson books, student books, manipulatives (student pack and magnetic tiles) and readers. All About Spelling and All About Reading are so great. Thanks
Great review on AAR 4! We’re currently on Level 2 and love it!
we have loved AAS & AAR here, have 3 kids in different levels of both programs.
My oldest daughter has finished AAR 1 and are currently doing AAR 2. She still loves to read her old readers and keeps them up in her room. We are almost finished with AAS 1 which I found so great. Excited for my youngest to start AAR very soon!
We use AAR and will be coming to AAS when we are ready. I have also used AAR Prelevel for my kids and they love Ziggy. I love the articles and videos and how you can get a real person on the phone when you call! I want to buy Reading Games with Ziggy too since my little guy still enjoys him (though he isn’t included to much in his level ) 🙂
Decoding (b-a-t) and encoding is the difference between AAR and AAS
We would use all of it. My oldest 2 are using the AAS and loving it. My 3rd child, 1st daughter is struggling with reading. We suspect dyslexia and the AAR program has been highly recommended to us to use as we wait on testing and results.
We love love love AAS & AAR. I would love to win level 4. We are using level 1 and 2.
AAR teaches reading and spelling, while AAS teaches spelling. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it because I love them both equally. Just like my kids. 😉
We are using AAR Level 1, and I am so impressed with how well my son is doing! I am so happy that I went ahead and ordered it (not to mention my son loved the T-Rex they drew on his box!). Now I need to get AAR 2, which we will need in a few months because my son is already halfway through level 1! I would also love to get the pre-reading program for my younger daughter. Winning this would really help!
Thank you for your review! We are using AAR1, and AAS and will be getting AAR2 soon. I can see this is something we’ll want to stick with as we continue homeschooling and for that reason I find everything on the link you posted would be a great resource! AAR is the first, and only curriculum we’ve been able to use with my daughter that hasn’t resulted in tears! 🙂
Id love to get this. WE currently use Explode the code but Ive been watching for kits on ebay. I have a dyslexic son reading grade level behind. This would be great!
The difference between AAR and AAS, is: “All About Reading includes decoding skills, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and lots of reading practice. It uses letter tiles just like All About Spelling does, though AAS focuses instead on encoding skills, spelling rules, and other strategies that help children become good spellers.”
I’ve been using AAR with my youngest, who’s dyslexic. His reading level has skyrocketed, and so has his confidence. I love this program!
We love AAR and AAS!! We have the first two levels of both series. We would love to have level 3 or 4 to continue on when we get there. My 4 year old hasn’t started the program yet, but he loves the app!!
I love how the programs complement each other – AAR teaches decoding, while AAS teaches encoding. And it is wonderful to see how they work together!
I could definitely use the Level 4 Materials!
3 of our kids are using AAR and AAS. We love it! Our oldest is ready to start level 4!
Looking forward to the phonics, and flashcards – that’s all put together!
We use AAS and AAR. Love them! I plan on using AAR and AAS through our studemts.
I *love* their free apps! I also enjoy keeping up with their blog. The website is so helpful!
All About Reading includes decoding skills, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and lots of reading practice. It uses letter tiles just like All About Spelling does, though AAS focuses instead on encoding skills, spelling rules, and other strategies that help children become good spellers.- from the website. =)
We are in our third year of using AAR and our second year of AAS. I LOVE these products and am looking forward to starting AAR 4 in the not-too-distant future. My oldest has learned so much with AAR and my 5 yo started AAR1 this year and is doing great. These really are the best reading and spelling curriculums I have found.
All About Reading and All About Spelling compliment each other perfectly. I love that All About Learning Press has a curriculum for each so that we are reinforcing the same concepts across these subjects. At first I thought I could just use AAR and just skip AAS but after using AAS for a year I really can’t imagine leaving either one of them out. They cover the same concepts from 2 different views; decoding and encoding. 🙂
We love AAR and need #4!
We just started homeschooling this year and would love to win this!
We love All About Reading!! We are ready for level 4~
All about Spelling basically teaches the break down of words and All About Reading puts them together!
Love the free videos and downloads on that page! 🙂 Those are wonderful resources!
The difference is that one teaches reading and the other spelling. Haha! 🙂
I would love to try AAR , I have done my research and would really like to use this next year with homeschooling. We decided to put my daughter into public preschool this year as homeschooling can be kind of expensive. It looks easy to use and I think she will do well with it. We have already started to but sounds together to start reading so I’m guessing next year we will be using AAR 1.
We just started All About Reading Level 1 with our 5 yr old daughter and we love it. I LOVE that the prep work is basically open the book and go. And I love the magnet letters. I would love to get the pre-reading level for my next daughter. I have been wishing we had the Ziggy Zebra puppet and book.
We love AAR. We’ll need level 4 soon! We’re doing AAS too. I love the method and many ways to practice new skills.
The difference between AAR and AAS… We actually had AAS and another reading program to start with. I noticed my child was progressing faster with spelling than reading, so we took a break from spelling. She hated reading, the curriculum we had was BORING. So I bought AAR2. The difference was amazing, she LOVES it and can’t wait to read. AAR teaches phonograms and how to find the syllables in each words, allowing kids to break words apart and figure them out (I’ve been surprised at the big words my 6 year old can read!). AAS is similar but puts more emphasis on specific spellings in the English language. It’s like turning thinking skills around and giving the child tools to decode the sounds.
We love AAR1-3 and AAS! This is the best program for my dyslexics, and they have grown leaps and bounds with it. We are almost finished with AAR3, and really need level 4.
Thanks for this giveaway!
Heather
We have been wanting to try aar for some time but haven’t been able to afford it yet.
The differences between AAR and AAS boils down to two different skill sets, decoding and encoding.
They work so well together. I have found that in areas that my girls were still slightly weak in skills from learning to read in AAR, AAS skills helped solidify them learning those skills. It is a well rounded program and wouldn’t want to do without one or the other 🙂
We LOVE AAR & AAS!!! I was amazed at how teacher friendly they both are. My kids especially really enjoy the activities that come along with the AAR aswell as the readers themselves =)
AAR teaches them reading and how to decode words while spelling builds on the same concepts but teaches them to encode for spelling.
I guess I’m confused by what you mean by resources I can find or use. They have a lot of good articles on teaching reading and spelling on their blog.
AAR teaching DEcoding skills. It includes activities and features to help with gaining fluency and comprehension while reading. AAS teaching ENcoding skills. It includes things like spelling rules and strategies.
I love AAS program but haven’t tried AAR program, although that is on my wish list. One particular thing I use all the time is the App. As I need to be reminded the proper way to say the phonograms, the app comes in handy as it is easily accessible. I love that there are sample download pages.
AAReading teaches from the decoding angle; AASpelling teaches from the encoding angle
We are using AAR and AAS. I would love to win this!
AAR has been the only reading program that has helped my struggling learner make progress in reading. I’m hoping that continues with level 3 and 4.
We use AAS and love it! Now we know that we need to switch over to AAR too!
Would love to win this. We have used all the AAS levels and 3 of the AAR levels. Great program!
Although I’ve been pleased with AAR, I really balk at the price. Why make the readers hardback? I wish they would make them paperback and bring the price down. That being said, does anyone have a used AAR Level 4 they’d be willing to sell me? You can email me at kimberly_lackey at hotmail.com. Thanks.
I do know that I’m glad they are hardback — they have been durable to now teach 4 kids to learn to read! If they had been paperback they wouldn’t have survived through 4 seasons — and when we are done they will resale well!
AGREE, 100% agree. I’m glad they’re hardback because I need them to last through 4 children who already have had me read through things a zillion times it seems.
Maybe in the future they can offer either hard or soft covers as an option?
