All About Learning Giveaway for $100

The textbooks are rapidly closing and making their way to a dusty shelf, to be ignored until a younger sibling needs them.  Children are hovering around me.  Following me.  Looking forlorn.  Wanting more food.

All about Learning giveaway

And dare I say, proclaiming they are “bored.”  When I threaten them that I will give them new schoolwork, they nearly jump as high as the roof begging me to punish them.  Surly this isn’t normal behavior?  I’ll take it, though.

All About Spelling and All About Reading.

  106. AAS teaches words from the spelling angle, while AAR teaches words from the reading angle.

  107. I clicked on the Spelling Can Be Easy. This is a good resource as it gives several ideas and examples of how to teach spelling. It also reinforces that not all children need to learn the same spelling words or in the same way.

  108. I am so excited they have iPad apps!! And for free?! Wow! My son will love it! We have been using AAR 1 and look forward to AAR 2 and spelling! Thanks for the chance!

    2. That is so super exciting!!! We were M’s in India. Where are you going and with what organization?? I want to hear more!!!

  131. I really like the AAS apps for the different tablets. I use it with my daughter when teaching her the AAS level 2 and AAR level 2. I like the apps because they help her to review the sounds when ever she wants. I will hear her sitting and saying the sounds of the phonograms and then pushing the button and saying yes, I was right.

  132. Definitely the apps. Both of my girls love their learning apps, it is such a treat for them! 🙂

  133. I think the ipad apps are a great resource for us because we travel an hour to the city at least once a week so the apps could really turn travel time into a fun learning opportunity.

  134. The difference between the two are the skills that each one focuses on. All About Reading focuses on comprehension and phonics in a complete program while All About Spelling teaches about various strategies to become proficient.

  135. We love All About Learning products in our homeschool. 136. This curriculum is on our list too! We would love to win a certificate to help pay for it!

  137. I desperately need AAR3 for next year, but it isn’t in the budget. 🙁 This gift certificate would be SUCH a blessing to our family!

  139. We finished Level 1 Reading and loved it! We are now working through Level 2 Reading and still loving it! We’ve also started Level 1 Spelling…it’s just as awesome as the Reading…they work so well together!

    Thanks All About Learning Press!

  140. All About Reading 1 is all about learning to sound out each letter sound in a word, while putting sounds together to say/read a word. While All About Spelling is geared towards learning to hear/identify each letter sound in a word in order to break it down so that you can easily spell/write a word. Of course they counter balance each other and your child learn many words…most importantly he/she learns language!

    Thanks All About Learning Press!

  141. Spelling can be easy. My son has a terrible time with spelling. Now he does so well using AAS. We will never use any other program.

We have four children and one with special needs. I’m hoping our switch to All About Reading and All About Spelling is worth the expense. It would be grand to have a $100 gift card to use toward our reinvestment….(dreaming) 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway!

  144. We are users of AAR and love it. As far as the freebies, I think the one we’ve used most often would be the ideas on how to help your child recognize the differences between b and d. We’re still working on that but the visual cues really help.

  145. I like that you can download and print more items if necessary. Sometimes a little extra practice is needed.

  146. All About Reading teaches phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension. All About Spelling teaches encoding skills, spelling rules, and multisensory strategies.

  147. I had to laugh because I clicked on the games link above. Scrolling through the options (which there are a ton!) I saw the summer printables that included “A Flock of Ducks”. My daughters have taken to calling any large group of anything ‘a flock’ (a flock of bananas, a flock of pencils, etc). So that was definitely what caught my attention! And it even happens to be right at their reading stage – perfect!

  148. I have heard so many great things about AAR and AAS. They are both on my purchase list for next year. Id love to put the certificate towards AAR2 or AAS1. Thank you for the opportunity!!

  149. AAR decodes words to unlock the secret of reading. AAS teaches encoding to unlock the mystery of spelling. Perfect partners!

  150. I would love to win to buy All About Reading level 1 for my youngest. We have been doing Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading and it is just not her thing.

  151. My kids love to play games on my tablet and I am always on the look out for good quality educational ones that are cheap or free. I will be downloading the AAS apps today.

  152. All About Reading teaches kids the necessary skills to decode words. All About Spelling works to teach kids how to spell words.

  153. This is so great! We are using AAR 1 right now and would love to win the next level!

  154. I love this curriculum! My daughter just finished the pre-reading level today and I can’t say enough about the sound apps and eating through the alphabet. Both of those things has helped her with remembering her letter/sound of the day. We are both looking forward to the next level.

  155. Its already been said but reading is decoding and spelling is encoding. 🙂

  156. The phonogram app is the freebie I would most utilize! What a great way to remind kids of the sounds that letters make by themselves and in combination with other letters.

  157. We’ve got letter sounds down, but the phonogram ap would be the perfect next step!

  158. We’ve been using AAS this year, and I did not know about the Spelling Resource Center. I just bookmarked that page so I can go back and read through the topics listed there!

  159. AAR teaches decoding skills, while AAS teaches encoding skills. Love AAS so far, and looking forward to using AAR with my younger ones.

  160. I’ve got three first graders who will all be using AAS and AAR next year. I love the AAL philosophy on teaching spelling and reading separately. Thanks for hosting this giveaway- $100 would be really useful for getting everything we need!

  161. We love All About Reading and All About Spelling! My son’s reading has taken off! He’s flying through chapter books now (we’re a few lessons shy of being done with level 3).

We’re almost done with level 2 of AAS and I’m so impressed at his spelling skills. Definitely a program I recommend.

  162. I just downloaded the free app! Can’t wait to let my younger son check it out.

  163. Um… yeah… so this is the part where I actually come back and ENTER the contest since apparently I only commented before! …yeah…

  164. Oh for the love of Pete! Now I am actually reading what I am SUPPOSED to comment about!
I would use the free ipad apps
The difference between the two is that one teaches spelling and one teaches reading 😉 (hehe) because one does not necessarily mean the other!

  165. AAR teaches a child how to read using a combination of sight words, phonics, and decoding words using phonograms. AAS teaches a child to spell words using encoding methods.

  166. Thank you for linking all those great resources! And sharing your children’s love of the program!

  167. I have a 2 yo, so we are right at the picture book stage, It is nice to have them reviewed!

  168. So many wonderful resources! Out of that list, I think one of my favorite resources is the picture book reviews! I love picture books and I’m always on the lookout for new ones. Definitely going to bookmark those reviews. 🙂

  169. I love the All About Spelling kits… They make my job so much easier and my child thrives!

  170. Thanks for this!! With my elder two, we’ve done a Letter of the Week system. I plan to do the same with my youngest, so I liked the Alphabet snacks ideas!! =)

  171. Well, we are hoping to start AAR next school year, so I don’t know the difference between the two first-hand, but I would guess that AAR teaches you how to combine sounds to read words and AAS teaches you how to break apart words into individual sounds. They certainly go very much hand in hand.

  172. AAR teaches phonics, decoding, fluency and comprehension. AAS teaches encoding, spelling rules and strategies to become a proficient speller.

  173. We love the ABC snacks. We are using All About Spelling & All About Reading and enjoy both!

  174. We love the ABC snacks. We are using All About Spelling & All About Reading.

  175. I found the open/closed syllable resource extremely helpful! My youngest has been learning about that the last few weeks and the free info helped me explain it to her in a way that did not elicit, “Oh MOM! That doesn’t make ANY sense to me!” lol

  176. I have used AAR & AAS. AAR is a gentler approach to the phonograms, more activities, teaching decoding skills. AAS teaches spelling rules and encoding skills. My dd learned to read with AAR1, something she had struggled to do for about 5 years. If we could have afforded it, I would have moved her into AAR2 but we really did enjoy our time with AAR 🙂

  177. I’m going to use AAR Level 1 to teach my kiddo this fall. I’ve read great things about it and can’t wait to start using it!

  178. We already use the phonogram app and love it but I was really excited to see the reviews of the picture books…I think I may be ordering a few of those today. I just can’t get enough books. We just finished level 1 of the reading and spelling programs and can’t wait to get started on level 2. I’m also thinking about getting the pre-reading for my 3 1/2 year old as he has shown quite an interest in “doing” school. 🙂

  179. AAR is learning sounds letters make in order to decode words and AAS is learning to break down a word into sounds in order to spell it. It also teaches spelling rules and other helps for remembering how words are spelled. I guess that is encoding right?

  180. I’ve seen many of their freebie printables before, and they’re so great! I always love looking at picture book reviews, too. (Thanks for hosting this giveaway!)

  181. The Reading programs teach decoding, phonics, and reading fluency. The Spelling programs teach encoding and spelling skills.

  182. I like the alphabet snacks. That would be fun to do. I also like the book reviews. It’s always nice to have suggestions for good picture books. Thanks for this giveaway!

  183. All About Reading teaches decoding skills while All About Spelling teaches encoding skills.

  184. The apps have been super helpful here! We love all about spelling for our 8 year old and are hoping to start all about reading soon for our 5 year old.

  185. All about spelling helps children learn to spell in an easy and hands on way with phonics. All about reading is less about how to spell the words, and more how to read them based on each letters sounds.
