I’m New to This: Notebooking
I was late to jump onto the lapbooking wagon. Several of my friends had to explain it to me. I love how creative my friend, Valerie, is with her computer and folders.
I like a good lapbook. But it takes a lot of time. Cutting . . . pasting. Sometimes laminating.
It looks cool.
Now that I have some children that are getting {ahem} older, we are entering another phase in life. In the school room.
Notebooking.
What is notebooking?
The way I understand it, it is note taking, but with cool pages. Once you have accumulated some notes, you compile them together in a central location to showcase your learning.
Right?
Great idea. But let’s say you are challenged in the design area of your life. Not just your home, but on paper.
Enter Notebooking Pages.
I recently learned about this gi-normous site. Seriously. I can’t imagine how much time was spent making all of these “notebooking” pages. I could spend hours printing just half of them.
I thought I would give you yet something else to do besides making sourdough bread.
I have been playing around and discovered that there are over . . . well, hundreds of pages to choose from and print.
- famous people
- Latin/Greek
- Science
- timelines
- geography
- character studies
- the alphabet
And I only skimmed the surface. (Moment of honesty, I only looked at the titles on the website. I mean, I have dived into the site and played and printed but just right now . . . I looked at the titles. Don’t tell. I just wanted to look like I knew what I was talking about. And I do . . . don’t get me wrong. There is just so so so so much available.)
But let me get real with you. The vast amount of resources on the Notebook Pages website overwhelms me. It leaves my mouth gaping before the computer screen, and my printer shuttering in exhaustion.
So don’t despair.
Now is a great time to dive into Notebooking Pages. I am assuming that your school is wrapping up, like ours, or switching to summer mode. You have all summer long to print one or two pages a day . . . and situate them all pretty in a binder.
What kid doesn’t love hole punching?
Notebooking Pages has a lot of free pages. But the REALLY useful stuff comes with the membership. And you and I can enter into this at a sweet time. (Use code happy6th by the way.)
Debra, from Notebooking Pages, is having a sale in honor of 6 years of notebooking!
Cost: $74.96 $56.21 for 365 days plus a bonus 3 months (455 days total)
Once again . . . the amount of information I can share with you is overwhelming. This website is a massive teacher’s toolbelt.
Cut out busywork. Eliminate lots of workbooks.
Create a resource that your child can draw, write, and review.
And starting in June . . . Notebooking Pages is launching an app! I need to have an app.
The Notebook Publisher will allow you or your child to create their own notebooking pages! This bonus resource to your membership will give your child ownership and allow them to type their work in lieu of writing by hand.
To learn more . . . you are invited to a Notebook Treasury party!
I am excited to see how Notebooking Pages will add to our Classical Conversations studies next year!
How do you think you could use Notebooking Pages in your classroom?
We love the treasury! I liked to look around the site as it gives me ideas of how we might be studying things. My boys have migrated to making their own notebooking pages. They have a spiral lined and a plain spiral notebook. As we read a book, watch a movie, take a walk, learn something in math, read The Word, etc, they will write out a paragraph or two in their notebooks. No more worksheets, fill in the blanks or “I just read this, now fill in these blanks”. Love it!
So good to hear! Thanks for sharing! I am looking forward to learning and using the Treasury more. I am especially excited about the new app they have coming out!
